DRE is pleased to announce the addition
of Stego Industries to our line of products.
Stego Industries is the industry
leader in the below-slab vapour barrier market. They strive
to provide valuable solutions for moisture-related concerns
by providing quality products and continuous support. The
products are composed of the highest quality, virgin resins
and provide superior protection against the costly problems
associated with below-slab moisture migration. This will become
increasingly important in September of 2010 when the VOC laws
are implemented and solvent based adhesives are no longer
compliant.
An issue that seems to be on everyone's
minds these days is the July 1st implementation of the HST.
The Sealant and Waterproofing Association is hosting a lunch
seminar on April 28 to discuss the new tax and answer some
of the commonly asked questions - How will the HST affect
my business? Will customers be entitled to a PST rebate after
July 1st? How will the HST affect my progress payments and
hold backs? Click on the link to the left for more information.
As always, I am open to suggestions
and comments so please feel free to email me at marla@dre.ca.
Best Regards,
Marla

What
is the difference between Stego Wrap and the vapour retarders
that I have been specifying?
Older generation vapour retarders/barriers
fall into four categories...
1. Cross-laminations of very thin
mils of polyethylene
2. Laminations of alternating layers thin polyethylene and
scrim
3. Thin polyethylene with fabric laminated to one side
4. Laminations of thin polyethylene, scrim and brown paper
Stego
Wrap is a "new generation" product extruded
from prime virgin resins and additives on a first melt basis.
Stego Industries does not use low-grade resins, recycled or
reground materials, cross-lamination, layers of scrim or fabric
backing. Virgin plastic molecules in Stego
Wrap "cross-link" to provide a homogenous membrane
with the same permeance and puncture resistance throughout
the web of the film.

STEGO WRAP Vapour Barrier is easily
unrolled and cut to size, safe to walk upon.

Project
Profile: Sherbourne Park
Coreflex
60 is currently being installed at Sherbourne Park by
Aquanorth Contracting. This project has been receiving lots
of press lately for its unique design and functionality.
Sherbourne Park will be a spectacular
new park in the heart of the East Bayfront midway between
the Jarvis and Parliament Street slips. It will be both a
local and regional amenity. The park will extend from the
water's edge to Lake Shore Boulevard, bisected by Queens Quay.
It is envisioned as an urban room and will provide a strong
terminus at the foot of Sherbourne Street. On the east and
west sides, the park will be bound by buildings with a weather
protected arcade creating a link to the waterfront during
all seasons. At its southern end, the park will be integrated
with the continuous water's edge promenade and will be designed
to reinforce and strengthen the water's edge as a continuous
and active year round destination. Park programming could
include a large public gathering place and a water feature
that could be frozen in the winter for skating.
In addition to it being a park, it
is a Storm Water Treatment Facility. This project is the first
of its kind in Canada.

SecuritySeal:
Pick-Resistant Sealing and Fire Rating to Structural Joints

Pick-Resistant, 2-Hour Fire-Rated,
Sound Blocking, Watertight, and 50% Movement--One Product,
One Install Does it All
EMSEAL
is pleased to announce SecuritySeal--another
new product tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories
to the rigorous requirements of UL 2079.
SecuritySeal
is a pick-resistant, watertight, 2-hour fire-rated, expansion
joint for locations requiring a hardened tamper-resistant
surface. Institutional walls such as those found in prisons,
detention centers, medical and psychiatric hospitals, school
facilities and day-care centers are some of the many structures
for which SecuritySeal
is the ideal choice.
The system is comprised of fire-retardant-impregnated
foam which is factory pre-coated on both outward facing sides
with an intumescent fire-proofing material. Each side then
receives a top coat of waterproof, tamper resistant polyurethane.
The system is supplied compressed
smaller than the width of the joint gap. The precompressed
foam is installed into an epoxy adhesive applied to the substrates.
A field-injected polyurethane sealant band seals the bellows
to the substrate at the installation surface in weather-facing
applications. Joins between each stick are executed using
a field-applied polyurethane sealant at the bellows' edge
of the join and intumescent caulking on the foam face.
SecuritySeal
functions as a watertight primary seal with movement capabilities
of +/- 25% (50% total) available in widths for gaps ranging
from 1-inch to 6-inches (25mm - 150mm). It is designed to
be used in both retrofit and new structural expansion joints
and in all other openings in vertical-plane applications and
is uniquely suited to precast tilt-up as well as block and
cast-in-place concrete construction.

Protectosil®
for Parking and
Bridge Decks

The main deterioration mechanism
for concrete decks is corrosion of reinforcement and scaling
of concrete. Protectosil
products for concrete decks are designed to repel water and
chlorides, reducing deterioration and increasing surface life.
Protectosil
products penetrate deeply to provide long service life even
on wearing surfaces. Because they do not change the skid or
slip resistance of the concrete, they are ideal for driving
surfaces..
Protectosil®
BH-N is a deep-penetrating 100% silane.
Main Benefits: Low-temperature application (20°F),
Excellent long-term chloride screening on wearing surfaces
(bridge decks, parking decks)
Protectosil®
CHEM-TRETE® 40 VOC and Protectosil®
CHEM-TRETE® 40 H are both solvent-based silane systems.
Main Benefits: Fast dry time, Low-temperature applications
(20°F)
Please note these products do not meet the new 400 g/lt Canadian
VOC requirement effective September 9, 2010.
Protectosil®
AQUA-TRETE® 20 and Protectosil®
AQUA-TRETE® 40
are water-based silane emulsions in 20% and 40% concentrations.
Main Benefits: Non- flammable, Low odor

KOSTER
NB1 Waterproofing System
The KOSTER
NB1 Waterproofing System has been developed to waterproof
cement-based substrates through the process of crystallization.
KOSTER NB1 contains chemicals which react with moistureand
ingredients in the substrate to form crystals which penetrate
deep to fill the voids and capillaries to produce the waterproofing
effect. KOSTER NB1 becomes an integral part with the substrate
itself. KOSTER NB1
KOSTER
NB1 may be used on the positive as well as negative side
of structures. It resists water pressures in excess of 400
feet and may be considered a permanent waterproofing system
as long as the substrate remains sound. KOSTER SB Bonding
Emulsion
Even
freezing and thawing cycles will not negatively affect the
material. It has excellent abrasion resistance and does not
require protection board for backfill.
KOSTER
NB1 is supplied in powder form. It is mixed with a solution
of KOSTER
SB Bonding Emulsion and water. The SB Bonding Emulsion
is added to improve the curing and adhesion to steel when
waterproofing between steel and concrete takes place. The
SB
Bonding Emulsion also improves the abrasion resistance
and elastic (lower modulus) properties of the material.
